New Delhi: Congress today indicated that Manish Tewari would contest next month's national election from Ludhiana in Punjab.

The union minister has been unwell for sometime, which raised speculation about whether he would contest the polls. He has reportedly decided to do so after getting a clearance from his doctor.

Mr Tewari is the sitting MP from Ludhiana.

"If he is physically fit, I do not think there is any reason why he would not contest," Congress General Secretary Shakil Ahmed told PTI.

Another senior party leader said Mr Tewari had never refused to contest.

Mr Tewari was admitted to a private hospital here on March 15 after he complained of uneasiness. He was discharged after two days of treatment on March 17.

Earlier, there were reports that he was inclined to contest from Chandigarh from where former Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal has been nominated by the party.
