CBSE Exam 2026 LIVE: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an important advisory to schools, parents, and students ahead of the board examinations for classes 10 and 12, scheduled to begin on February 17, 2026. This year, over 46 lakh students will appear for the exams across India and in 26 countries abroad. The examinations will begin at 10:30 AM, and students have been instructed to reach their respective examination centres by 10:00 AM.

The advisory states, "Keeping in view important national and international summits, high-level meetings, and other programmes scheduled during the examination period, traffic regulations may result in congestion, route diversions, and delays in different parts of the country."

On Friday, CBSE hosted a live webcast to explain key details related to the conduct of the Board Examinations 2026. The session outlined examination guidelines and the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system.

Given the scale of the examinations, which require careful planning and coordinated execution at both examination and evaluation centres, CBSE organises this annual webcast to communicate updated policies and new measures to officials involved in the process. 

The Class 10 examinations will begin with Mathematics (Standard and Basic), while the Class 12 examinations will commence with Biotechnology, Entrepreneurship, Shorthand (English), and Shorthand (Hindi). The Class 10 examinations will conclude on March 10, and the Class 12 examinations will end on April 9.

To strengthen the examination process, CBSE has introduced three key initiatives for 2026:

The Class 10 CBSE board examinations are scheduled to begin on February 17, 2026, with over 26 lakh students expected to appear. Starting this year, Class 10 board exams will be conducted twice a year in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

This new framework allows students to appear for the Class 10 board examinations a second time to either improve their scores or clear any failed subjects. The second board exams for 2026 are scheduled from May 15 to June 1.

Regarding the number of subjects that can be attempted twice, CBSE Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bharadwaj told The Indian Express in an exclusive interview, "Under the scheme, a student can appear for improvement in a maximum of three subjects in the second examination."

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on December 9, 2025, issued important guidance regarding significant changes introduced in the Class 10 Science and Social Science question paper format for students appearing in the 2026 board examinations.

This year, the Class 10 Science and Social Science question papers have been divided into different sections with a view to improving the quality of evaluation.

Science:

The question paper has been divided into three sections - Section A, Section B and Section C. Section A is Biology, Section B is Chemistry, and Section C is Physics.

Social Science:

Similarly, the Social Science question paper has been divided into four sections - Section A, Section B, Section C and Section D.

Section A is History, Section B is Geography, Section C is Political Science, and Section D is Economics.

To understand the exam pattern and familiarise themselves with the paper format, students can check the sample question papers of both Science and Social Science on the CBSE Academic website.

Important instructions for students appearing in the Class 10 board examinations:

  • Students must divide the answer book into three sections in Science and four sections in Social Science while writing their answers.
  • Answers must be written only within the space identified for the concerned section.
  • Answers of one section should not be written or mixed with another section.
  • If answers are mixed, they will not be evaluated and no marks will be awarded.
  • Such mistakes will not be accepted or addressed during the verification or revaluation process after the declaration of results.

CBSE has directed all schools to ensure that students practise this format in advance so that they do not make mistakes during the board examinations.
