Warmer day in Delhi; fog continues
New Delhi: Delhiites woke up to a foggy but relatively warmer Wednesday morning with the minimum temperature going up by two degrees compared to yesterday. It stood at 6.8 degrees Celsius, which is still a notch below normal. The Met Department forecast a clear and sunny day ahead.

"The light veil of fog cover in the morning will clear up as the day progresses. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 22 degrees," an official said.

At 8.30 a.m., fog reduced visibility to 350 metres and humidity stood at 94 per cent.

Most of the flights at the Indira Gandhi International Airport departed on schedule, an official said. Some flights were, however, cancelled or delayed due to inclement weather at their destinations.

Yesterday, the minimum temperature had dipped to 4.8 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal. A thick blanket of fog had reduced visibility to near-zero in many parts of the city and had led to a massive pile-up on the Greater Noida expressway.

The coldest day of the season so far has been December 16 when the minimum temperature dropped to 4.7 degree and the maximum to 21.7 degrees. The Met Department has predicted 120 hours of dense fog till mid-February.

A severe cold wave across north India has left at least 75 dead. Temperatures have plunged across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Bihar and Jammu and Kashmir.
