A 46-year-old man was arrested for allegedly beating his roommate to death in Najafgarh over a trivial issue after they both consumed alcohol together, police said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred around midnight on August 28 at a rented accommodation in the Ajay Park area in Najafgarh, where the victim, Dadan (46), a resident of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, lived with the accused, Ranjit Ram, the police said.
According to the police, both had consumed alcohol together, and later got into an altercation over some issue.
"Around midnight, Ranjit allegedly assaulted Dadan with fists and blows to his face and head. During the assault, Dadan fell on the floor and sustained an injury," a senior police officer said, adding that blood was also noticed at the spot.
After the scuffle, Ranjit went to sleep in the room and found Dadan dead the next morning. He later informed the victim's family about his death.
The incident came to light on August 29 when Dadan's nephew Ramesh reached the spot and made a PCR call. On receiving the call, a police team reached the premises.
A crime team inspected the spot and carried out necessary proceedings. The body was sent to Rao Tula Ram Hospital for postmortem. Police have registered an FIR into the matter and launched further investigation.
Dadan was engaged in scrap-related work at a scrap warehouse.
