Burglary of Rs. 1 crore at Delhi bank cashier's house

New Delhi: Cash and valuables worth Rs.1 crore were burgled from the house of a bank cashier in south Delhi's affluent Vasant Kunj area, police said on Monday.

"Harish Narayan, 53, a resident of Vasant Kunj in South Delhi, left on Saturday morning around 9.30 a.m. for his office at Bank of Baroda in Lodhi Estate area," said a senior police officer.

Police said after Narayan left, his son-in-law Manish along with his wife and his mother-in-law also left the house to drop them at their offices at different places in the city. "When he returned in an hour, he found that the lock of the house was open. As he entered, he saw the house ransacked", said the official.

Police received a call around 11 a.m. Harish Narayan returned on hearing of the burglary. Narayan in his police complaint said that around Rs.80 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs.20 lakh were stolen.

"We are investigating and will be able to crack the case by tomorrow (Tuesday). We have got some leads and are working on it," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Chhaya Sharma.
