Autorickshaw unions in Delhi to go on strike from today
New Delhi: Commuters in Delhi may have to face hardship as some autorickshaw unions have decided to go on a strike from today demanding a hike in fares.

A number of prominent unions have called an indefinite strike from Friday after their demand for hike in fares, in wake of increase in CNG prices, was not met by the city government.

However, Delhi government on Thursday claimed 20 auto and taxi unions have agreed not to go on strike from Friday after the office bearers met Transport department officials in support of their demands.

"All unions, except a union having leaning towards saffron party, joined the talks with Special Commissioner (Transport) and other senior officers. Their main demands included hike in fare and additional fare on the basis of time-consumed in congested localities," an official statement said on Thursday.

The meeting was called on the instruction of Delhi Transport Minister Ramakant Goswami.

The office bearers of the unions expressed full faith in the government and it was decided that they wouldn't go on strike keeping in view the ensuing difficulties being faced by the commuters because of disruption in their services, the government claimed.
