The incident took place at around 11 pm near Mandi House in central Delhi. The girl has alleged that she was molested inside a Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus plying from Khayala to Lajpat Nagar. She said the accused, an off-duty conductor from another bus, harassed her on board.
He was arrested after the driver and the conductor of the DTC bus gave statement to the police. The accused has been remanded to 12 days judicial custody. The other two have been detained. The Transport Minister of Delhi Ramakant Goswami said, "We have done an inquiry. The accused and the driver and conductor of the bus who was in bus have been suspended."
According to police the girl left her house in Khayala in west Delhi at around 9.30 pm after a reported tiff with the family. A missing person's complaint was lodged by the family, which was later converted into a case of kidnapping. At around 11 pm the cops spotted the girl sitting in the bus.
A case has also been filed against the accused under Section 354 (molestation) and Section 509 (acts or gestures that are intended to outrage the modesty of woman) of the Indian Penal Code.
The monstrous attack on the student jolted India into action. Nearly every day, protesters have been demanding justice for the student, better policing, and a faster and more effective legal system to handle cases of sexual assault.
