Admission process of schools flouting norms to be cancelled

New Delhi: New Delhi: Delhi Minister for Education Arvinder Singh Lovely said the admission process of schools that are found setting discriminatory criteria for nursery admissions will be canceled. The statement came after complaints were received from parents that certain schools were giving preference to the parents' profession.

"We have received complaints against 7-8 schools and we are making it clear that no discriminatory criteria will be allowed," he said in a press conference.

He said action will be initiated against the schools that have flouted the norms for nursery admissions. "I will be briefed in detail about these complaints later in the day, and we will decide on the course of action." he said.

When asked if this will cause more problems for the parents, he said the applicants will not be asked to fill the forms and provide other information again, only the process will be scrapped and done again.

He also said that the government will issue a notification tomorrow on the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) policy under which unaided private schools have to reserve 25 per cent of total seats in their pre-primary classes for the economically weaker sections.
