9-Year-Old Boy Killed As Delhi University Professor's Car Allegedly Hits Bicycle

Boy dies due to his injuries after he was hit by a car driven by a DU assistant professor

New Delhi: A nine-year-old boy was killed on Friday after his bicycle was allegedly hit by a car driven by a Delhi University assistant professor, police said on Friday.

Nitesh, a Class 6 student, was riding his bicycle on Najafgarh road when he was hit by the car driven by Anupama, the assistant professor at Delhi University's Bhagini Nivedita College, near BDO office at around 1 pm on August 3, said a senior police officer.

She rushed the boy first to a private hospital and later to Rao Tula Ram Memorial Hospital in Jaffarpur where the boy died due to his injuries during treatment, he said.

The professor later surrendered herself before the police and an FIR under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304 A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC was lodged at the Chhawla police station.

Anupama was arrested and later given bail at the police station, said the officer.

An eyewitness claimed that the accused driver was on phone when her car hit the boy on the bicycle, however, police said that they are investigating the matter with all angles.

The boy lived with his family at Roshanpura and his father Mukesh worked as a labourer, police said.
