777 people fined in New Delhi for drunk driving on Holi

New Delhi: A total of 777 people were caught and fined for drunken driving during a special traffic police drive on the occasion of Holi on Thursday, police said.

According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Satyendra Garg, 597 two-wheelers, 123 cars and 57 other vehicles were 'challaned' during the drive.

Police had made elaborate traffic arrangements to ensure safety of motorists on roads and check incidents of drunken driving, over-speeding, dangerous driving, triple riding, minor driving, driving and riding without helmet and other traffic offences.

Special checking teams with alcometers were deployed at major intersections to detect and prosecute violations.

A total of 200 special Traffic Police checking teams were spread all over Delhi to check drunken driving.

In the run up to Holi too, Traffic Police had conducted a special drive against drunken driving for six days.

Last year on the occasion of Holi, a total of 720 people were fined for drunken driving.
