Politician's son opens fire at South Delhi restaurant

New Delhi: The son of a politician from Uttar Pradesh allegedly opened fire at a South Delhi restaurant on Wednesday morning. He surrendered later and has been charged with attempt to murder - a non-bailable offence. The weapon he used has also been recovered.

Vivek Singh arrived at Mocha, a restaurant in Nehru Place, along with his sister and a friend of hers at 11:45 am. The girls told the restaurant's staff that they had lost their purses there on Tuesday night.  The staff explained that the purses had not been found.

Vivek then got into an argument with the Manager, and put a gun to his head. Vivek's sister tried to intervene, and that's when Vivek shot one bullet which hit a wooden board. Nobody was injured. (Watch: Restaurant manager explains his ordeal)

By the time the police arrived, Vivek had disappeared.  His father, Chandraveer Singh, is an MLA in Uttar Pradesh for the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
