Nasik: Man arrested for making prank call to Chavan's residence

Nasik: A man has been arrested in Nasik for allegedly making a prank call to Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan's official bungalow, police said on Sunday.

The man - identified as Harish Chandra Yadav - was arrested on Saturday by Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and Nasik Road Railway Police after the call was traced, they said.

Harish has previous cases against him. He was arrested from a hotel in Nasik.

The police have found a diary on him, which has details of various policemen and politicians.

Harish is alleged to have made a call to Chavan's official residence 'Varsha' on Friday claiming to be an Al-Qaida member and asked for the Chief Minster's whereabouts.

The city police, however, brushed it aside claiming it to be a "prank call". "The prankster threatened the person who answered the phone and told him to reveal the whereabouts of the Chief Minister. The call was received at Varsha in Malabar Hill on Friday,'' said the police.

He was arrested from Dwarka area, they said.

Eight SIM cards were also recovered from Harish, they said but added he has no links to any terror any group. When produced before a local court he was remanded in five-day police custody.
