Expect traffic jams in Delhi as UP farmers protest tomorrow
Delhi: With farmers from Uttar Pradesh planning to gherao Parliament, police have warned about traffic jams in the heart of the national capital on Thursday.

Farmers of UP's western region were planning to 'Gherao Parliament' to protest against acquisition of land for Yamuna Express Way, police firing on farmers and to demand amendment in Land Acquisition Act and adequate compensation for farmers.

Police estimate that about 10,000-12,000 farmers are expected to participate in the protest.

According to a senior police officer, farmers will arrive in Delhi via Ghaziabad, Noida, Loni and Faridabad borders and approach towards Rajghat from where they will proceed to Ramlila Maidan.

They will be coming in buses, tractor trolleys and other vehicles. There could be more vehicles on the Delhi streets tomorrow, he said.

"They are expected to march in a form of procession from Ramlila Maidan to Jantar Mantar via Ranjit Singh Marg and Tolstoy Marg.

"Their procession shall affect the vehicular movement at Rajghat, JLN Marg, Barakhamba Road, K G Marg, Janpath, Ranjit Singh Marg and Tolstoy Marg," the official said.

Congestion is likely to take place in Connaught Place, Mandi House, Darya Ganj, Chandni Chowk and surrounding areas. The movement to New Delhi Railway Station through Ajmere Gate may also be affected, he said.

Police advised general public and motorists to use public transport to avoid congestion on roads.
