Chaotic Wednesday for Mumbaikars

Mumbai: Waterlogged streets, train services hit, flight delays. It was a chaotic Wednesday for Mumbaikars.

And in a slum in Thane, eight people died after a wall crashed into their homes.  Among them were two children. After the incident, 37 people have been shifted to a safer location.

Early in the morning around 4'0' clock a wall separating a slum and a building construction collapsed on the slum in Thane.

"We are also filing a case against the builder. Prima facie it seems that height of the wall is much more and it needs to be examined whether particular deviation is done from the permission that they have been given," said Additional Commissioner Gupta.

Worst affected in the downpour were flights with airport operations going into a tailspin.

Visibility fluctuated through the day, because of which flights into the city were late by 45 minutes while flights out were delayed up to three hours.

Closing the short runway only added to the delays.

"I have been waiting at the airport for almost six hours now and there has been no response," said one of the passengers.
"There is nobody at the counters. We have been standing for three-to- four hours now and then they tell us its late by a half-an-hour," said another stranded passenger.

Services on the Western Railway Line were disrupted for over an hour after part of a tree fell on the tracks.

In the city national disaster management teams were stationed at various places to ensure public safety and convenience. Not just the city, the entire state reeled under the full impact of the Monsoon. The absolute worst being the loss of 46 lives in rain related incidents across Maharashtra.
