Arunachal school reopens after four months

Itanagar: A prayer meeting was held in memory of ten students who were burnt to death in a private hostel of the Holy Angel Don Bosco School in Arunachal Pradesh which reopened on June 1 after nearly four months.

Parents of some of the deceased also attended the prayer meeting held in the premises of the school at Palin in Kurung Kumey district.

Classes will start regularly from Wednesday, school sources said.

The ten students had died in their sleep when fire broke out at the hostel on February 10.

The school was closed since then after angry parents had taken the charred bodies from the gutted hostel to the school and buried them in the school compound.

The principal and other staff fled in the wake of tension.

After the parents were persuaded by the district authorities and the parents to shift the bodies to the spot where the fire broke out, the bodies were exhumed, reburied and a memorial was erected.

Meanwhile, parents of the six deceased have opened bank accounts as per a communication from the PMO to get the exgratia announced by the Prime Minister.

The district administration has advised other affected parents to open bank accounts and once they do so, the account numbers will be intimated to the PMO, additional deputy commissioner of Kurung Kumey Chhaku Takar said.
