Sheila Dikshit: Biggest learning has been that media has brought out something that has not been highlighted. What happened in December showed the apathy of the police and the people who were around. The outpouring of the people brought pout this angst. It woke us up, woke our conscience.

Prime Minister Singh praises the work of the Justice Verma committee, calling it "one of the rare occasions when a government-appointed committee finished its work ahead of time."

Dr Manmohan Singh: I'm happy that NDTV has honoured India's Daughter. We should resolve that we will not let her death go in vain.

Pamela Chopra listed all Mr Chopra's films, ending with Jab Tak Hai Jaan, when asked to name her favourite.

Pt Shankar and Mr Chopra died last year in December and October respectively. Mr Chopra died just three weeks before his last film, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, released. Pt Shankar received two posthumous Grammy awards this year.

Director Yash Chopra also receives the Lifetime Achievement award, collected by Mrs Pamela Chopra.

Justice Leila Seth: Political class has done well and adopted new laws quickly. It's not exactly what we wanted but it's a step forward.

Justice Verma: The real heroes are the Indian youth. We must ensure offences are prevented, not just punished.

Justices J S Verma, Gopal Subramaniam and Leila Seth are honoured for their contribution to securing justice for the Indian woman.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh meets India's Braveheart's family as scholarships are announced in her name.

Her mother says: My only request, fix things so this never happens to anyone else. And let all five men hang.

India's Braveheart's friend says: I have lost my friend. No law can bring her back. But let this not recur. Honour our sacrifice in that way. 

He says: Family said, sell land for her marriage. She and we wanted her to study. We lived on potatoes to ensure we could help her study

India's Braveheart's father says: Our daughter was no less than a son for us:

Prannoy Roy: India has shown the world that freedom and democracy can deliver high growth.

Prannoy Roy: It's the Indian voter, not the leader, that has given our democracy a high growth rate.
