Video: Shinku La Pass Reopens For Traffic, But Stranded Truck Remains A Hurdle

After a tense incident that disrupted connectivity on the high-altitude route, Shinku La Pass has finally reopened for the movement of vehicles. However, the situation is not entirely back to normal, as the truck involved in the earlier bridge collapse incident continues to remain stranded, posing a partial obstacle for commuters.

In a recent video circulating online, traffic can be seen cautiously resuming along the route connecting Padum and Darcha. It can be seen in the video that the vehicles are crossing the affected area through the sides on a narrow motorable patch. However, the patch is only suitable for a single four wheeler to pass across at a time. Authorities, led by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), have managed to restore temporary access, allowing vehicles to pass through the sides of the affected stretch. Despite this progress, the damaged section of the bridge and the immobilised truck are still visible, forcing drivers to navigate carefully around the affected area.

The incident originally gained attention after a viral clip showed a truck narrowly escaping disaster when a small bridge gave way mid-crossing. While the front portion of the vehicle made it across, the rear section sank as the structure collapsed, bringing traffic to a standstill on both sides.

The reopening of the route comes as a relief for travellers and locals who rely heavily on this crucial link between Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh. However, officials have cautioned that movement may still be slow and subject to delays until the stranded truck is safely removed and permanent repairs are completed.

This development also highlights the unpredictable challenges of travelling in high-altitude regions, especially during periods of fresh snowfall. Similar disruptions were witnessed earlier near the Atal Tunnel, where heavy snow left hundreds of vehicles stranded.
