TVS Ntorq 150

TVS Motor Company becomes one of the few brands to try their hand in the 150cc scooter category. The direction is loud and clear. Ntorq 150 is not a maxi-scooter. It wears the clothes of a 125cc scooter, but with a bigger heart pumping 150cc of working volume. The pricing is also at a very sweet spot. The brand love to categorise it as 'hyper sport'. Should you be consider TVS Ntorq 150? Read our first ride review:

TVS Ntorq 150: Engine

Essentially, the 3-valve, single-cylinder motor used in Ntorq 125 is reworked, making way for a bigger 149.7cc engine with larger bore and longer stroke, along with a lightweight crankshaft. No radiator fan like the Aerox or Xoom 160, TVS has gone ahead with an air-cooled engine with oil cooler, which generates 13.2 horsepower and 14.2 Nm of peak torque. Power is sent to the rear wheel using a belt drive. Thus, a CVT unit is what it gets.

TVS Ntorq 150: Chassis & Brakes

It's bigger than the Ntorq 125; but no way close to maxi-scooter territory. This primarily comes down to the fact that both scooters have great amount of component sharing. They share identical 12-inch tyres, main frame albeit re-engineered for stiffness, suspension, and starter-generator. Brakes are also same, save the fact the Ntorq 150 comes with single-channel ABS and traction control.

TVS Ntorq 150: Performance

The new TVS scooter feels decently peppy with a characteristic and deep exhaust note. We have to admit, TVS' line-up is full of bassy exhaust notes, which are appealing, if anything. The engine is largely refined with a 0-60 kmph timing in 6.3 seconds. The acceleration is smooth, and 60-80 kmph is easily attainable. The 100 kmph-mark comes with a bit of an effort, even if the throttle is wrung hard. The vibrations are nicely controlled; only creeping on the handlebars nearing the triple-digit speed. The Aerox and Xoom 160 are more powerful than Ntorq 150, clocking higher top speeds.

TVS Ntorq 150 Ergonomics and Space:

Underseat storage is 22 litres. There is a scoop in the front apron. At 770 mm seat height, tip-toeing for a 5 feet 2 inch-tall individual is natural. The weight is manageable at 115 kilograms. The seat is long and wide, however, the floorboard could have been more spacious.

TVS Ntorq 150 ride and handling:

Riding on 12-inch wheels, the TVS Ntorq 150 feels decently agile for its size. It may not be as nimble as Ntorq 125 due to the weight factor but certainly manageable in chequered traffic. The ride is slightly firm, leading to a sporty ride. However, we rode the TVS Ntorq 150 in a flat and flowing track, devoid of undulations. We would reserve our opinion on ride quality until a city experience comes to our table.

TVS Ntorq 150: Design

The Ntorq 150 is a derivate of the concept Graphite. TVS designers have gone back to the drawing board, roping in cues from the sketches. Sharp lines on the face and four sporty colour combinations, the TVS Ntorq 150 appears a little front heavy. The finish is consistent and paint job satisfactory. Twin LED projectors in dual barrels act as the headlamps unit, which should have a good throw at night. Top-end model comes with a full colour-TFT screen and a host of connectivity and navigation features.

TVS Ntorq 150 Price and Verdict:

Pricing of Ntorq 150 was key and prima facie, TVS seems to have nailed it. The new price ranges between Rs 1.19 lakh and Rs 1.29 lakh (ex-showroom), and the Ntorq 150 stays clear of Xoom 160 and Aerox 155 by a huge margin. The Ntorq 150 attempts to create a new segment: a sharp two-wheeler under the bigger batch.
