Tata Motors Ltd. is facing a significant IT security incident affecting UK-based subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Plc (JLR). Initially, because of the issue, the brand was unable to take registrations for new cars. However, based on a new regulatory filing made with the Indian Stock Exchanges, the organization is dealing with an IT security incident.
The statement in the disclosure said, "We are working at pace to resolve global IT issues impacting our business. We will provide an update as appropriate in due course." However, the company refrained from providing specific details of the incident. Further clarity on the incident will be provided when the company receives more information from JLR.

Based on Autocar's report, the issue came to light after a JLR dealer in the UK informed the corresponding branch of zero car registrations on Sept 1, which is one of the year's busiest times for new car buyers.
However, this is not the first IT issue faced by the UK-based brand. This event comes after the luxury automaker faced earlier cybersecurity issues. In March 2025, JLR was allegedly targeted by the HELLCAT ransomware group, which claimed responsibility for the leak of approximately 350 GB of sensitive data, including confidential documents and employee information.
JLR, a part of the Tata Group, entered a deal with Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (TCS) in March 2023 to become the IT partner for Jaguar Land Rover. As part of the agreement, TCS offers a wide range of services to the firm, including application development, enterprise infrastructure management, cloud transition, and cybersecurity, supporting all JLR operations worldwide.
In March 2023, the company also collaborated with Tata Technologies to speed up its digital transformation under the "Digital 2024" initiative. Furthermore, JLR retains internal IT resources at its main offices in Whitley, Coventry, as well as at the Gaydon Centre in Warwickshire, while also working with Tata Communications to improve its digital infrastructure transformation.
