KTM 390 Adventure R

KTM has officially launched the much anticipated - 390 Adventure R in the Indian market, priced at Rs 3.78 lakh (ex-showroom). Interestingly, this makes it more affordable than the standard 390 Adventure S with spoked wheels, which retails at Rs 3.97 lakh. The reduced price comes from using tube-type spoke wheels instead of the standard tubeless setup.

Longer Suspension Travel

The Adventure R sets itself apart mainly through its suspension and wheel setup. Drawing from the export-spec Enduro R, it features WP Apex suspension with 230mm of travel at both ends, compared to the standard model's 200mm front and 205mm rear. This upgrade enhances off-road performance, offering better damping and control over uneven terrain.

Bigger Wheel

The wheels further underline its off-road focus. The Adventure 390 R uses a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear combination, fitted with tubed Mitas Enduro Trail tyres. By contrast, the standard 390 Adventure comes with a 21-inch front and 17-inch rear setup, paired with tubeless Apollo Tramplr tyres that are more versatile for mixed road conditions.

Ground Clearance

Dimension changes reflect the R's tougher intent. The seat height has been raised to 870mm, while ground clearance now stands at 272mm, making it more suitable for riders tackling demanding trails. These adjustments, along with the knobby tyres, position the R as a more trail-ready machine.

On the technology front, KTM has retained the same electronics package as the standard model. Riders benefit from ride-by-wire, traction control, cornering ABS, and multiple ride modes, ensuring the bike remains one of the most feature-rich offerings in its segment.

Engine

Powering the Adventure R is the familiar 398.6cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine, producing 44.3hp and 39Nm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. While the engine remains unchanged, the revised suspension and wheel setup give the R a distinct character compared to the standard version.

With this addition, KTM's adventure lineup in India now includes three models: the 390 Adventure (standard), the 390 Adventure R, and the 390 Adventure X.
