BMW Motorrad has filed patents for the R 1300 RT, signalling fresh ambitions in the luxury tourer segment as it eyes a potential India debut. As, filing of patent does not confirm that the motorcycle will be launched in the country. This successor to the R 1250 RT promises sharper dynamics and upgraded tech, built around the potent boxer engine from the R 1300 GS lineup.

At its core sits a 1,300cc air/liquid-cooled boxer twin, churning out 145 hp at 7,750 rpm and 149 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, gains over the outgoing model's 136 hp. Paired with a six-speed gearbox and shaft drive, it hints at an optional automatic transmission for effortless long hauls. The chassis swaps tubular steel for a lighter sheet-metal frame with an aluminium subframe, aiming to trim weight while boosting rigidity for highway stability and twisty backroad fun.

In terms of design, it brings a stacked LED headlamp, daytime running lights, and a large windscreen for superior weather protection. Panniers and a top box appear as options, preserving that signature bulky yet purposeful tourer stance.

Up front, BMW's Telelever suspension enhances handling without compromising pillion comfort, backed by advanced electronics like multiple ride modes, traction control, cornering ABS, and a connectivity-rich TFT display.

With BMW's growing two-wheeler presence in India, and the launch of models based on the 1300 cc platform like the R 1300 GS, the brand might prioritise it for premium buyers craving refined long-distance tourers. Patents don't guarantee a green light yet, but they underscore BMW's intent to bring the touring machine here. The current tourer lineup of the brand in India consists of models like K 1600 B and K 1600 GTL along with the R 1250 RT.
