2026 Jeep Cherokee Debuts In New Avatar- To Get Hybrid Powertrain

The end of 2023 was the time when the fifth-gen Cherokee left Jeep's lineup, leaving a gap to be filled between the Compass and the Grand Cherokee. At the time, the SUV had a production run of 10 years. After a short-lived retirement of around three years, the SUV is ready to head back to the production line. The brand has revealed the SUV with new images, and it seems to be ditching the styling of its predecessor to offer what looks like an even tougher SUV with a rather boxy design. This comes with a promise of prominent changes in the powertrain.

Following the automaker's latest design language, the latest iteration of the Jeep Cherokee has some elements reminiscent of the Wagoneer S and the latest version of the Compass. This is seen in the form of the signature seven-slot grille with a shape similar to the one seen on the previous generations. While the rear is not visible, it might follow a similar pattern to the Compass.

The new Jeep Cherokee will be underpinned by the Stellantis' STLA Large architecture. In other words, it is likely to have multiple powertrain options. Specifically, a hybrid powertrain, a petrol powertrain, and a fully electric version are on the cards. Speculations are, the SUV will likely have a version of the brand's 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged inline-six engine, giving out up to 510 hp of power. If it makes its way to the Cherokee, it will likely be detuned.

A battery-powered Cherokee would probably feature a configuration similar to that of the existing Wagoneer S, which is equipped with a 100.0-kilowatt-hour battery and two electric motors generating 600 horsepower and 617 pound-feet of torque. However, it's important to note that the electric Cherokee likely won't reach the power levels of its larger counterpart.

The new Jeep Cherokee will likely make its debut later this year. However, it will be available for sale in 2026. There is no word on the subject in the Indian context.
