Dr Kosanam's parents live by themselves in Kapparaduddi village of Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh.
The family of Ramamurthy Kosanam, an Indian kidnapped in Libya, is extremely worried. The doctor from Andhra Pradesh was taken by suspected Islamic State terrorists earlier this week along with another person from Odisha who has reportedly managed to escape.
Dr Kosanam's mother, in her 70s, broke down after news that her son has been kidnapped. "He came had last come more than a year ago. I long to see him," she said.
The doctor's parents live by themselves in Kapparaduddi village in Central Andhra Pradesh, 300 kilometres from state capital Hyderabad. Their daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren live more than 70 kms away in Eluru city.
Dr Kosanam's son Pavan, in his early twenties, said they were shocked when they learnt what had happened to their father. "He has been working there for 15 years. We contacted our local MP who has promised to help," he said.
His wife Annapurna says he would call them every day. But for the last one week his phone has been switched off.
Dr Kosanam had to continue to work in Libya despite the outbreak of the conflict because of the family's financial problems, his brother Nagaiah said.
"We appeal to the Andhra Pradesh government and to the Centre to talk to whoever concerned and bring my brother back safe," he said.
On Wednesday, the external affairs ministry had said that doctor and another person from Odisha, Pravash Ranjan Samal, were kidnapped by suspected Islamic State militants from Sirte in Libya.
Yesterday, the Press Trust of India reported that Mr Samal had managed to escape from captivity and contact one of his friends to say that he was free.
Two teachers from Hyderabad, Gopikrishna and Balram, have been in the captivity of Islamic State terrorists in Libya for over 50 days now. They were among four professors kidnapped in July, two of whom were released later in the month.
