Cold wave persists over Punjab and Haryana, Amritsar freezes
Chandigarh: The city of Amritsar was freezing at minus two degrees Celsius on Tuesday morning as the cold wave over Punjab and Haryana intensified in the past 24 hours.

The minimum temperature in Amritsar was five degrees below normal. The maximum temperature recorded in the city was 15.6 degrees, three degrees below normal.

Hisar, Rohtak and Karnal towns in neighbouring Haryana also saw the minimum temperatures dipping to 1.7, 1.7 and 2.4 degrees Celsius respectively. Karnal was five degrees below normal.

In Chandigarh, the low and high recorded were 4.6 and 16 degrees respectively.

Met officials here said that the cold wave would persist over the region with icy winds.
