No Power In Village

Computers allotted to a government-run school in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district two years back have been gathering dust as it still does not have power supply since it was established more than 50 years back, officials said.

With commercial activities shut for nearly one and a half months and income going down due to the coronavirus lockdown, villages in the national capital have appealed to the Delhi government for relief from paying electricity bills.

A breach in an artificial pond that stored toxic residue from a coal power plant run by the state-owned NTPC has contaminated farmland in Madhya Pradesh's Singrauli, villagers have alleged. The district collector said no one was injured and the ash spillage happened inside the boundary wall of the power plant.

We are forced to live in darkness, say villagers of Trishuli, living in remote part of Chhattisgarh. Since India's independence, the electricity has not reached around 100 homes of this village. While the villagers have complained to the authorities and written letters demanding electricity supply, there has been no progress.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today announced that his government has extended electricity to all the 1.39 crore households in the state much ahead of the December 31 deadline, an achievement that will go a long way in empowering its residents.

Around twenty villages at Satna in Madhya Pradesh were powerless most of the night after the local administration decided to cut off the power supply for the safe landing of Home Minister Rajnath Singh's chopper. Satna will see a maximum of 42 degrees Celsius today

Even as the Central government has said all villages in the country have been electrified, there is one village (could be more) in this Uttar Pradesh district that is still waiting for power lines.
