Around 100 mechanised and country boats were damaged when they were battered and tossed by unusually strong and high waves at Kulachal on Monday. Some boats were pulled into the sea and sunk by the strong waves, officials said. About 20 houses in Thangachi Pattinam also were damaged as the high tide flooded the fishermen colony along the shores.
