Car Hits Senior, Travels 15 Km With Him On Roof

Hyderabad: A senior citizen was flung on to the roof of a car and his body driven around for nearly 15 kilometers after the speeding vehicle hit him in Telangana's Nalgonda district, on Saturday afternoon.

K Venkat Reddy, 70, was crossing the road when a Maruti Suzuki Ritz hit him. The impact was such that his body was flung into the air and fell on top of the vehicle. Mr Reddy died immediately due to the impact of the accident, the police said. He had suffered head injuries and a fracture in his leg, the police added.

The driver, Raheem Khan, had initially reportedly stopped the vehicle by the side and was advised by passersby to take the man to hospital. He seems to have panicked and couldn't find a hospital nearby and thus ended up travelling almost 15 km, the police said.

The police said the driver was not familiar with the route.

"The vehicle was being run at a speed of 100 km per hour from Hyderabad towards Suryapet in Nalgonda district on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway," a local police officer said.

A case for causing death due to negligence has been registered.
