The Pakistani Taliban beheaded a Sikh youth, Jaspal Singh who was believed to be one among three Sikhs, all of them Pakistani citizens, who were kidnapped from the country's violent North West province tribal belt.
The "barbaric act" came just days before India and Pakistan were to resume dialogue for the first time since the Mumbai attacks in November 2008.
A letter found with Jaspal Singh's body, warned relatives and other Sikhs of the area of suicide attacks if they disclosed the case to the media.
India strongly condemned the killing. A Sikh protest was carried out on Jammu-Pathankot national highway followed by a Jammu bandh.
