Caught On Camera: Russian Swimmer's Close Call With A Shark

Most people who travel to the Maldives come back with tales of beautiful sunsets and long walks on the beach. An accidental and heart-stopping encounter with one of the world's most dangerous aquatic predators is rarely to be found among most holiday snaps. But that's just what happened with this Russian swimmer vacationing on the tropical islands and he has video to prove it.

In a Facebook video posted by Sergey Sverdlov on February 19, Moscow resident Dmitry Zhadan can be seen swimming in the ocean with a friend close behind him. What they didn't know was that they had company right next to them - Jaws.

The video shows Mr Zhadan swimming towards the dangerous denizen of the deep when his friend, Mr Sverdlov, points at the water and prevents a potentially deadly collision.  One can only imagine how that would have turned out.

Mr Zhadan, however, seems quite calm in the face of clear and present danger. It's worth mentioning here that this probably isn't his first rodeo - Mr Zhadan is actually a diving instructor at the Moscow State University Underwater Club. It still doesn't take away from the fact that he did have a rather close encounter with a shark.

Talk about making memories on a trip abroad, right?
