Schooled in Tamil? You've got the job

Chennai: Tamil Nadu has decided that those who studied in Tamil will be given preference in government jobs.

This comes days after a grand Tamil conference, a multicrore conference organised by the DMK government to showcase Tamil pride.

The state government on Friday made its first appointment as part of giving jobs in government service to those who studied in Tamil medium right from elementary school.

Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had announced during the valedictory of the World Classical Tamil Conference at Coimbatore recently that preference would be given in government services to those who studied in Tamil medium.

Under the announcement, P Pethru, who had completed his education in Tamil medium, was appointed as "xerox operator" in the office of the Chief Public Prosecutor.

The appointment order was handed over to him by Karunanidhi, an official press release said.
