Reddy saga: Uncle Vivekananda meets nephew Jagan

Reddy saga: Uncle Vivekananda meets nephew Jagan
Hyderabad: This is the most gripping family soap opera playing out in Andhra Pradesh right now. In the lastest episode of the Reddy saga, newly sworn in minister Vivekananda Reddy has met his rebel nephew Jagan Mohan Reddy at the latter's home in Hyderabad today, in a bid to tell the world that all is well.

Politics has split the late YSR Reddy's family down the middle and there have been reports of heated scenes between his brother and son. Jagan quit the Congress earlier this week, 14 months after YSR's death in a helicopter crash. These months were marked with many rebellious moments in a distinctly uncomfortable relationship with the party.

The last straw for Jagan, who fancies himself his father's political heir, was his uncle Vivekananda being included in new Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy's team of ministers.

Today, Vivekanda was at pains to say that the two would continue to have cordial relations as a family.

So how did Jagan react to Vivekananda joining the Andhra Pradesh ministry and he to Jagan possibly starting a new political party? The minister said uncle and nephew did not discuss politics.

He pointed to the Scindia family of Gwalior, which has members belonging to both the Congress and the BJP, to say that political differences need not affect family ties.

When some Jagan supporters tried to stop Vivekananda Reddy's car as he was moving out, an angry Vivekananda, twirling his moustache, threatened the man with dire consequences before the man was moved out of the vehicle's way.
