Kheroni: Hindi Speaking people have been under fire from almost all militant groups in Assam. The sugarcane farmers of Karbianglong and N C Hills are amongst the worst affected.
It's interesting why L K Advani chose Kheroni of all places to kick off his campaign. Kheroni produces majority of sugarcane products in Assam.
It also has about 60 per cent population from Bihar a community always under threat. In the last three years more than 200 people have been killed in these sugarcane fields.
"There are endless problems here but one must survive, we vote with the hope that we will be safe and secure but nobody cares for us," said Ramadhar Chauhan, a farmer who came to Kheroni from Uttar Pradesh as a teenager but today this is his home
The residents of Kheroni have no recollection of any national leaders visiting their town. Though there is little expectation from politicians, visit of a high profile leader has brought some of the election mood into this otherwise disturbed township.
