Former 'Mr Delhi' arrested for boy's murder

New Delhi:

In custody of the Delhi Police is Rocky, who kidnapped and murdered Ribhu Chawla. Sixteen-year-old Ribhu's body was found on Wednesday. This is how it unfolded:

Rocky, a 28-year-old body builder, had run up a debt of 15 lakh rupees. He met Ribhu through a common acquaintance. Police believe Rocky befriended the much-younger victim because he came from a wealthy home.

On Tuesday afternoon, Rocky and three friends kidnapped Ribhu and demanded a ransom of 60 lakhs.

Ribhu's father made a part payment of 15 lakhs.

But Ribhu knew Rocky and his friends too well. There could not let Ribhu go alive -- ransom or no ransom.

Says Ajay Kashyap, Joint Commissioner of Police: Ajay Kashyap, Joint Commissioner of Police ''He knew them. They would have not let him off alive.''

The four of them strangled Ribhu with a rope and threw his body in the outskirts of the city.

Police say the kidnapping was badly planned. It was clear Rocky's group had little money. They had no car, no weapon not even a phone. They were using Ribhu's.

''They just wanted to make a quick buck,'' says Kashyap.

A quick buck for which six-year-old Dhyey Khambhu was killed by his teenaged neighbours. Sixteen-year-old Adnan Patrawala was brutally murdered by four men, two of whom were friends And 18-year-old Sanchit Sachdeva was killed by a friend, who thought he had come into a lot of money.

A worrying trend in juvenile crime. And little consolation for family and friends who have lost their loved ones.
