3 Arrested In Rohtak Gang-Rape But Accused Claim Conspiracy

The woman was gang-raped by five men, two of them out on bail, in Haryana's Rohtak.

Rohtak: A woman who refused to negotiate with men who gang-raped her three years ago was found dumped in bushes in Rohtak last week, allegedly after being raped for the second time by the same five men. Three of them have been arrested. With their daughter in hospital, the family is demanding a CBI probe and strict action against the accused.

The 20-year-old Dalit woman who moved to Rohtak from Bhiwani in 2013, was allegedly abducted, drugged and raped by the men again, two of them out on bail after being arrested in three years ago for the crime.

The family of the woman alleged that their daughter was attacked again for pursuing the case and refusing to settle outside of court. The accused had allegedly offered Rs 50 lakh to the family for dropping the charges.

"All we want is justice for my sister. The accused have been planning to take revenge since 2013. They had pressurised us to withdraw the case three years ago. They should get nothing less than the death penalty," said the woman's brother.

But the families of two of the accused, who were given bail last month in the earlier case, alleged that they were being framed.

They have submitted CCTV footage to show that the accused were not in Rohtak on the date of the crime.

"He was in Bhiwani, he went to the bank and withdrew Rs 5 lakh that day," said brother of one of the accused.

The wife of another accused said, "He was travelling between Kurkshetra and Ambala. He has a marketing job and there is CCTV footage to show he was in a shop in Ambala that day. He is being framed."

Police have assured that the investigation will be fast tracked. Deputy Superintendent of Police Pushpa Khatri said, "We will be examining the footage and call detail records given by the families of the accused men. We will verify to make sure there is no tampering."

The woman recovering from the trauma is yet to give her statement to the police.
