Stabbed in park for objecting to romancing couple

Ghaziabad: A 65-year-old man was stabbed to death when he objected to a couple sitting in an objectionable position in a park in Indirapuram near the national capital, police said on Friday.

Retired Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) employee Shyam Prasad had gone to the Swarna Jayanti Park in Indirapuram after dinner Thursday night with his grandson when he came across the couple, Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Shahi said.

"As he was strolling in the park with his four-year-old grandson, he saw a couple in an objectionable position in a corner of the park," Shahi said.

"When he objected, the boy entered into an altercation with him. The boy took out a knife and stabbed the old man," he added.

Prasad, who lived at his son's house in Indirapuram, collapsed immediately and died on the spot.

The boy and his girlfriend ran to pick up their bike. But, on seeing a guard, the boy left his bike and fled with the girl. Another girl, who was also with the couple, also swiftly escaped in an auto.

"We are trying to track the culprit on the basis of his bike and are investigating into it," the police officer said.
