Explosion in Jammu & Kashmir's Badgam hours before Farooq Abdullah's rally, 12 injured

The explosion in Badgam occurred hours before National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah's rally.

Srinagar: 12 people were injured in an explosion in a busy marketplace in Jammu & Kashmir's Badgam today. The explosion occurred hours before National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah's rally.

The injured people were taken to a local hospital.

Forensic officials have found small metal balls from the site of explosion.

Meanwhile, at Farooq Abdullah's rally in Srinagar, an explosion-like sound was heard causing panic among the people. However the rally went on as usual.

Dr Abdullah's son and Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah also clarified soon after that this was not an explosion.

"There was NO blast at the venue of Dr Abdullah's election rally in Srinagar. There was a sound that was heard in the distance...The election rally continues without disturbance & the police are working to ascertain the source of the noise that was heard (sic)," Mr Abdullah's son and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted.

He also tweeted, "The election rally continues without disturbance & the police are working to ascertain the source of the noise that was heard 2/2 (sic)."
