CWG preparations: There have been shortcomings, says Cabinet Secretary

New Delhi: There may be negative buzz surrounding the upcoming Commonwealth Games but the Union Cabinet Secretary KM Chandrasekhar, appointed by the Prime Minister to oversee the preparations, sounds confident about successfully pulling off the mega event.

A small portion of a false ceiling at the weightlifting arena at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the main venue for the Games collapsed on Tuesday, causing more embarrassment to the organisers and the government. This came a day after the collapse of an under-construction foot over-bridge near the CWG venue.

In an exclusive interview to NDTV, the Cabinet Secretary said there have been shortcomings but there is nothing to worry about.

"The collapse of the foot over-bridge was very unfortunate, but there was nothing to fear. We are in constant touch with the participating countries.Hope they will come," he said.

Talking about preparations, Chandrashekhar added " We have started a control center. Everything will be ready on time."
