Train services begin from Anand Vihar
New Delhi: Three months after being opened to public, regular trains will start operating from Anand Vihar Railway terminal from Wednesday onwards.

In the first phase, three trains will start operations from the terminal. They are Anand Vihar-Bapu Dham Motihari express, Anand vihar Varanasi Garib Rath express and Anand Vihar- Jogbani express, official sources said on Tuesday.

Since its inauguration on December 19 last year, the station has been handling mostly special trains bound for Eastern states.

The terminal, which has been constructed to decongest the New Delhi station and cater to passengers residing in East Delhi, is expected to handle over three lakh in full capacity and over 250-odd trains, they said.

Built at a cost of Rs 85 crore, the swanky terminal building has may firsts to its credit. They include loading and unloading of parcels and food items in the station yard to ensure platform cleanliness.

A museum adorned with black and white photographs capturing the illustrious past of Northern Railways also finds space at the complex, spread over 6,000 sqm area.

Several other modern amenities also give the station a contemporary look.

A senior railway official said the station would be integrated with the Anand Vihar metro station, which is nearby. The inter-state bus terminus flanks the station on the other side.
