Teacher gets life term for killing student

Salem, Tamil Nadu: A former teacher of a private school was on Thursday sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in Salem in Tamil Nadu for killing an eight-year-old girl student in 2008.

Chief Judicial Magistrate C Rajasekar also sentenced Daraniselvan (32) to ten years and two years rigorous imprisonment under section 364 (kidnap) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code respectively. All sentences would run concurrently.

According to prosecution, Daraniselvan, physical training director of the school at nearby Rakkipatty, was in love with a woman teacher of the school.

Objecting to his behaviour the management had initiated disciplinary action against him.

Infuriated over this, he decided to defame the school and kidnapped Monisha on November 1, 2008, murdered her and hid her body in a bush. He later implicated a top school authority behind the crime. But investigation revealed it was he who murdered the girl.

Besides the jail terms, the court also slapped a total of Rs 20,000 fine on the convict.
