Mumbai: Ravi Pujari abused by gang member over low bank balance
Mumbai: Gangster Ravi Pujari was recently abused heavily by his second-in-command Ashok Chowdharie, 27, when the account given to him to withdraw money after a criminal operation showed meagre balance.

This was revealed during the surveillance of Chowdharie's phone by a special police team formed few months ago to put brakes on the activities of the Pujari gang, which had been terrorising builders, small businessmen and jewellers. Pujari himself is believed to be holed up somewhere abroad.

Police sources close to the developments of the case said the incident happened after the firing case in Panvel few months ago when three of the alleged Pujari men fired at a builder.

Chowdharie was later arrested along with few of his accomplices and charged for firing at the Panvel builder, along with other criminal offences.

The sources added that it was Chowdharie who had reportedly hired the shooters to execute the plan and was therefore responsible for their payment. The officials said that Pujari had opened a bank account, reportedly with a fake name, and its ATM card and password were handed to Chowdharie to withdraw the cash required for the execution of the plan and to pay the shooters.

When he (Chowdharie) went to the ATM to withdraw the money, he found the account showing a very small amount of money. "This angered Chowdharie so much that he called up Pujari and abused him with the choicest of expletives. He also refused to work with him until paid in advance for future operations," a senior police officer added.

Officials said that Chowdharie rose in the underworld hierarchy very quickly and won the trust of his master with his sharp mind and quick criminal acts.
