Lalitpur (Uttar Pradesh):
A minor girl in the Lalitpur district of Uttar Pradesh was allegedly set afire by a man for resisting rape, police said on Saturday. She is battling for her life in hospital.
The accused man is absconding.
According to the police, the 14-year-old girl, a resident of Lakshmipura area was on Thursday set afire by Lalit Soni, 19, of the same area when she resisted his rape attempt.
Acting on the complaint of the victim's parents, the police, late on Friday, registered a case against Soni, who is absconding.
"The girl alleged that Soni caught her while she was in the fields and tried to rape her. After she raised an alarm, Soni torched her and fled from the spot," Superintendent of Police L.R. Kumar told reporters in Lalitpur, some 300 km from Lucknow.
