11-Year-Old Girl, Allegedly Set On Fire by Indore Policeman, Dies

Yasmeen was set on fire by police constable Prakash Jaroliya

Indore:

An 11-year-old girl died today in Indore after being allegedly set in fire by a police constable on Thursday. The girl's family is constable's neighbour.

According to the police, Yasmeen Khan had borrowed constable Prakash Jaroliya's bicycle and took it for a ride on Thursday afternoon. The policeman got angry after seeing Yasmin riding his bicycle without permission. Enraged, he beat her up and took Yasmeen inside his home. A few minutes later, Yasmin was seen running out of the house with her body on fire, eyewitnesses said.

She was admitted to the hospital on Thursday with 100 per cent burns and succumbed to her injuries today.

The girl's family has alleged that constable Prakash first thrashed Yasmin and then poured kerosene on her and set her on fire.

"I was not at home when this happened. When I came back, I got to know that constable Prakash, who lives near our house, beat up my daughter as he was angry with her for riding his bicycle without permission. People told me that Prakash then took Yasmeen to our house and set her on fire. This man must be punished," said Yasmeen's mother Rehana.

The police is yet to register an FIR and claims to be investigating the case. Meanwhile, the constable and his family are on the run.
