New Delhi: A Delhi court today took cognizance of the chargesheet filed by the Delhi Police against former Uttarakhand minorities commission chairman Sukhdev Singh Namdhari in the double murder case of liquor baron Ponty Chadha and his brother Hardeep.

Ponty Chadha and his brother were killed at a farmhouse in Chhattarpur in south Delhi in a shootout on November 17 allegedly over a property dispute.

In the 1800-page chargesheet, the police have accused Mr Namdhari of murder, abduction, wrongful confinement among other charges.

Sources in the crime branch said that after Hardeep shot his elder brother, Mr Namdhari and his security officer Sanjeev Tyagi opened fire at him, killing him on the spot. The sources add that Delhi Police in its chargesheet has said that Hardeep's murder was not an act of self-defence but was a cold-blooded murder committed by Mr Namdhari and his associates.

The charge sheet has also listed out 110 prosecution witnesses in the document.

Mr Namdhari, who has been in police custody since November 23, along with nine other accused men in the case, will now be produced in court on February 19, when the arguments are scheduled to begin.
