A day after social activist Anna Hazare said his fight would now be for Right to Recall and the Right to Reject as part of electoral reforms so that corruption can be reduced Law Minister Salman Khurshid said that the Right to Reject seems relatively a more practical concept. Speaking to NDTV, Mr Khurshid asked, "Is it possible to recall the US President or the British MPs?"
Election Commissioner VS Sampath told NDTV, "Since we have not really examined the right to recall. It has to be looked whether it is vogue in other countries and some kind of study has to be made. The system is prevalent in Switzerland and Venezula EC would like to wait and watch." T
On the right to reject the candidates in the poll, the Election Commission had already sent its recommendations to the Government for change in law, that will allow voters to push a button on the voting machine rejecting the candidates in the fray. The Election Commission says its for the Parliament to decide on the issue
While the government is yet to decide, political parties are treading with caution on Anna's proposal on poll reforms. " The CPM has been demanding right to recall for long. We should debate. It will make our democracy perfect," said CPM's Sitaram Yechury. BJP Leader Rajnath Singh said, "Even JP had used the term 'recall'. Parliament should take it seriously and not lightly."
