Caught on camera: Jharkhand MLA's kangaroo court

Giridih District, Jharkhand: In a bizarre incident, an MLA in Jharkhand personally handed out 'instant justice' at a public court in his house.

Jagannath Mahto, an MLA from the ruling JMM party, was caught on camera beating people accused of petty crimes as hundreds of people watched.

Surprisingly, there was little outcry in Jharkhand over Mahto's act after footage of his beating up and punishing several men was shown on local television channels.

The MLA too had no qualms about taking the law into his own hands.

"We get all kinds of complaints. They are addressed accordingly. I gave a public punishment and finished the complaint. Stick use is important in certain cases," he said, defending his act.
