New Delhi:
There is more trouble brewing for former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi. NDTV has learnt that the Organising Committee (OC) wants him investigated for a bunch of new alleged scams as it sent out point-wise replies to the Sports Ministry on the Shunglu Committee findings.
The OC's reply says Kalmadi enjoyed monopoly in decision making and violated all norms while selecting contractors.
These new allegations include the Beijing Olympics observer programme, in which around 161 people were taken to China. Sources say the OC believes it was a pleasure trip for many of them.
The allegations also include the Rs. 960 crore deal, which outsourced sponsorship and management of the Games to Sports Marketing and Management (SMAM) and Events Knowledge Service (EKS).
A loss of almost Rs. 60 crore was also caused by the complimentary distribution of four and a half lakh tickets.
The Shunglu Committee had earlier indicted five bodies including the Kalmadi led OC and the Sheila Dikshit-led Delhi government. However, the Delhi government is the only one which has remained unscathed by the CBI, except for the arrest of a couple of junior officials.
The Shunglu Committee set up by the government, was the PM's answer to the Opposition's charge that the government was not serious about tackling corruption as well as those who were negligent in the CWG fiasco, however, Delhi government rubbishing the report has put the PM's office in a fix and opened the government for further attacks from the critics and the Opposition.
"There is no question of Sheila Dixit resigning. The Home Minister will look into the report. It has to be evaluated", said Abhishekh Manu Singhvi, Congress Spokesperson.
The Opposition, however, which has been clamouring for Dikshit's resignation says it will keep up the pressure, and have planned a dharna in the Capital on Monday.
