Banda rape: Cop suspended for alleged misbehaviour with victim

Lucknow: Moving swiftly on the Banda rape case, the Uttar Pradesh government has suspended a policeman for allegedly misbehaving with the victim while she was in jail.

Sub-inspector Jabbar Ahmad, who was posted at Attra police station was placed under suspension for misbehaving with the rape victim during her detention in connection with a theft case against her, Superintendent of Police Anil Das said.

Ahmad was acting in-charge of the station when an FIR was lodged against the girl who was arrested on December 12, he said.

Mayawati had earlier in the day ordered for the release of the Banda teen allegedly raped by BSP MLA Purushottam Narain Dwivedi. The girl is believed to have been implicated on theft charges and is in jail. The Chief Minister has also asked Uttar Pradesh Home Secretary to provide security to girl.
