Alagiri, 50 others booked for assault
Madurai: Union Minister and senior DMK leader M K Alagiri has been booked - along with 52 other partymen - for assaulting an election official and a videographer at a village near Madurai.

Tahsildar M Kalimuthu, who is the Assistant Returning Officer for the Melur Assembly segment, and a videographer were allegedly assaulted by DMK activists when they videographed Alagiri's visit to a temple yesterday, said the police.

A case was registered against Alagiri, who is the son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and 50 others for offences including unlawful assembly, assaulting a government servant and violating prohibitory orders.

Alagiri, who serves as the DMK South Zone Organising Secretary, had gone to the temple when the Election Commission's team began filming his visit.

After the cameraman was attacked, police personnel escorted the Election Commission squad out of the temple.
