Aurangabad: The 17-year-old son of a senior Nationalist Congress Party leader in Maharashtra has been detained for allegedly driving an SUV that swerved into a man and two young children walking on the road, killing one of the little girls.

The incident happened on Tuesday morning and has been caught on newly installed cameras in the Hudco TV Centre Chowk area of Aurangabad. In the camera footage, the white SUV is seen going out of control and hitting the girls and their uncle, who were walking down to a temple nearby. The girl who died was two years old. Her sister, 3, was injured and is in hospital.

The teen who was allegedly driving the car is the son of a prominent local leader of Sharad Pawar's party in Aurangabad. He was returning home after seeing his father off at the airport, when the accident happened, the police said.

They said the driver employed to drive the SUV was sitting next to the boy.  He has been arrested.
