In Delhi, scam that promises you entry to clubs
New Delhi: A cheat has been arrested by south Delhi police for allegedly duping people on the pretext of making them members of famous clubs in south Delhi in return for money. The accused reportedly cheated about 50 people to the tune of Rs 20 lakh.

A senior police official said the accused Vineet Mehra is a resident of Civil Lines in north Delhi. The official said Rajeev Chhabra, who runs a shop in Defence Colony, had filed a complaint against Vineet. Rajeev alleged that the accused had approached him and promised to make him a member of the Defence Colony club as well as the Residents Welfare Association (RWA) of Defence Colony if he paid Rs 40,000.

"On June 28, Vineet met Rajeev and introduced himself as the joint secretary of the club and the RWA. He assured Rajeev to make him a member of the club and the association and demanded Rs 40000 in return. He said he will come to his shop and collect the money," said the official.

The police arrested him when he came to collect the cash. A case under section 419 (impersonation) and 420 (cheating) has been lodged against him. "During questioning Vineet said he got the idea of cheating people when he saw that there are many ready to pay lakhs of rupees for membership of posh clubs in south Delhi.

Once when he had gone to a club in Civil Lines, he had seen people waiting in long queues to get membership. He posed as official of various RWAs, associations and clubs in Civil Lines, Survpriya Vihar, Defence Colony and Hauz Khas to dupe people," said the police.
